I realize it is already not Valentine’s Day anymore, but I figured one little one couldn’t hurt.

I was like, “what is a cute sweet couple”

and then I was like “oh, and they should live sadly ever after, like they should be horribly torn apart from one another by some condition out of their control, perhaps he has a medical condition and she has a controlling father”

“perhaps he has horribly unresolved anger issues that result in him leaving the country”

“and he transforms into a giant green rage monster”

“and she’s like “weh” and life is sad”

“and they still have this one precious memory to hold on to that gives them a little something warm in the darkness of the night, even though they really can never be together again”

“and he wears glasses and has freckles because I like freckles but really, just that he has glasses”

“and perhaps they can both go by their nicknames that start with B”

Clint sees the carefully tended cobra lily in a corner of the lab and is reminded, immediately, of Bruce. Compared to Bruce, Clint is an insect- he literally can’t resist, even though he knows it can’t turn out well, he knows Bruce is emotionally unavailable, he knows that even if he doesn’t mean to do it, Bruce will always put Clint second to his condition, to his memories, to his scars.

Clint always climbs back in, hoping that this time will be different.
